Comet report for 1st March 2009

MARVELLOUS IN THE MUD!

 

North Herts Road Runners’ Neil Miller won the final Three Counties League Cross Country race on Sunday and was crowned league champion retaining the title he won last year.  With 5 men in the top 20 North Herts were delighted to finish 2nd overall on the day and 3rd in the league, an improvement on last year’s 4th position.  V70 Don Powell also won his age category and will be looking to finish an outstanding cross country season by winning the county age group title next week.

18 runners completed the hilly, muddy 4.6 mile course at Guilsborough in Northants with Luke Humphries 4th, Gary Cook 7th, Pete Scrowther 14th, Ciaron McAneny 19th, John Russell 30th, Stuart Bryant 43rd and John Franklin completing the scoring team in 51st.  Men’s team captain Pete Sibbett was pleased to finish 66th on his return from injury, Colin Calcutt was 104th and Don Powell 107th.  Ladies’ team captain Tash Pitman enjoyed an excellent run to finish 6th followed by Jo Summers 9th, Karen Dodsworth 22nd, Rachel Annetts 34th, Anne Callis 39th, Lindsay Cook 46th and Christine Sharp 56th.

 

              

 

BEAUTIFUL BARCELONA PRODUCES PERSONAL BESTS!

 

Meanwhile Jonny Spinks and James Walsh  travelled to Barcelona for the first of the Spring marathons. V40 Jonny ran an outstanding personal best of 3.12.04.  This sub 3.15. clocking  guarantees him a ‘Good for your age’ entry in to the London marathon in 2010.  James also recorded an excellent PB of 3.20.43.
