Christmas racing

Boxing Day saw 25 Road Runners eager to race off the Christmas dinner!  John Russell took the opportunity whilst visiting family to participate in the Wedgenock Mud and Mayhem and managed to finish 20th out of the 100 or so who took up the challenge!  Closer to home 24 squirrels enjoyed the annual Pirton off road 3 miler.  James Walsh,18.22, was first across the line for the club in 5th closely followee by James Atkins 6th 18.34, Adrian Sherwood 8th 18.50 and Stewart Bryant 19.28. Ladies’ captain Tash Pitman won the ladies’ race in 20.42 with Steve Williamson 20.57 in hot pursuit.  The Harbon family celebrated dad Richard being home from Iraq for Christmas with all of them turning out, Richard finishing in 23.08 followed by mum Jo in 26.25 and daughters Katie and Helen in 26.31 and 26.45.  The rest of the runners were: Johnny Spinks 21.00, martyn Annetts 21.51, John Franklin 21.55, Steve Tracey 22.29, Tom Young 23.44, Dan Young 23.45, Colin Calcutt 24.48, Karen Dodsworth 25.16, Rachel Annetts 25.43, Bob Boss 26.04, Gemma Sherwood 29.36, Stewart Smither 30.20 and Lindsay Cook 33.03.

 

On the 28th 18 Road Runners took part in the Buntingford 10 mile race with Pete Scrowther leading the club home in 60.23 for 13th position overall and getting ever closer to the magical sub 60 minute 10.  Adrian Sherwood was delighted with his new PB of 64.07 with James Walsh 65.13, Stewart Bryant 66.35 and Steve Williamson 69.30 also running under the 70minute barrier. V50 Norman Leslie was just outside with 70.18 and he was closely followed by John Franklin 71.35.  Dave Ross continued to enjoy a welcome return to form following injury with 78.04 just 7 seconds ahead of Colin Calcutt, 78.11 with Finlay Simpson 78.57 also close on their heels.  Lucy Sparkes was the first lady home for the club in 81.51 followed by Paul Bowal 81.53, Sheena Cook 82.03, Linda Aird 83.35, Matthew Rix 84.04, Rachel Annetts 86.50, Nicky Kemp 89.22 and Vanessa Rolfe 97.04.

 

New Year’s Eve saw 4 members racing at the Ely 10km with Oliver Saville setting a new PB of 37.30, Pete Sibbett running 42.14, Karen Dodsworth 57.30 and Brian Judkins dipping under the hour to finish in 59.50. 

 

John Russell made sure that he was the first Road Runner to finish a race in 2010 by taking part in the Milford 2km.  The race started at 11.55 p.m. and John finished 12th in 7.45, just minutes in to the New Year.
