Squirrels success in Stevenage 5km series!

The final Stevenage 5km saw 30 North Herts Road Runners racing round the streets of Stevenage to return with a host of prizes.  Steve McKewon was 1st home for the club in 16.41, equalling the club record and winning the V40 category in the series.  Also on winning form was V60 Stewart Smither who captured the series win with a 20.12 clocking on the night.  The men were also dominant in the team competition wining both the open and veteran trophies.  The successful open team consisted of McKewon, Nick Beresford 16.44, Pete Scrowther 17.18(new club V45 record), Pete Sibbett 17.20 and Ciaron McAneny 17.51.  Mc Kewon, Scrowther and Sibbett then joined up with Adrian Sherwood 18.24, Nick Malpeli 18.47PB and Stewart Bryant 18.46 to win the vets.  For the ladies Melissa Winters just dipped under the 20 minute barrier to secure 3rd position in the ladies’ series with both the open and veteran ladies coming 3rd as well.  The other finishers were: Richard Thackeray 19.21, Steve Williamson 19.30, Martyn Annetts 19.42, Dave Frampton 20.39, Chris Priestley 21.12, Colin Calcutt 21.15, Deryk Myall 21.57, Matthew Rix 22.21, Paul Bowal 22.35, Dave Ross 22.43, Linda Aird 24.00 PB, Ian Sutcliffe 24.02, Rachel Annetts 24.34, Nicky Kemp 24.44, Brian Bailey 25.04, Vanessa Rolfe 27.58, Brian Judkins 28.37, Christine Sharp 28.38, Robert Riggall 30.06 and Lindsay Cook 31.19.

 

Following his club record run on Thursday Pete Scrowther then raced at the Andy Reading 10km in Bicester and was delighted to record 36.12, just 6 seconds off his PB.  Pete Sibbett travelled slightly further afield as he took part in the Majorca Half Marathon finishing 2nd V45 in 1.21.47 despite a hilly course and torrential rain and gusting winds.  Closer to home, and in much better weather conditions, 17 members took part in the club’s December Run of The Month, the Bedford Half Marathon.  New member Mark Hutchinson, on his debut at the distance, crossed the line first for the club in an impressive 1.23.56 followed by V50 Stewart Bryant 1.27.56, V50 Alan Jones, who ran a PB in 1.29.10, and V45 Richard Thackeray 1.29.13 also breaking the 1.30.00 barrier.  Other results were:  Steve Williamson 1.31.28, Steve Tracey 1.37.46, Sarah Stead 1.41.15, Dave Ross 1.46.16, Mike Shephard 1.48.51, Linda Aird 1.52.42, Lisa Thavkeray 1.52.19, Nicky Kemp 1.53.55, Martyn Annetts 1.54.46, Rachel Annetts 1.54.49, Gillian Hopkins 2.05.41 and Vanessa Rolfe 2.06.21.
