North Herts Road Runners’ mens team romped to victory in the 4th cross country league fixture and ensured the club held on to 2nd position overall in this extremely competitive league. The tough Ampthill course with continuous steep uphill and downhill sections is a fierce test of strength and stamina but the men rose to the challenge and packed superbly to score just 112 points, 22 points ahead of 2nd placed home club Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers. First home for the club was Steve McKewon in 8th closely followed by James Atkins 11th, Pete Scrowther 14th, Gary Cook 15th, Oliver Saville 18th, Mark Hutchison 22nd and Pete Sibbett 24th. 3 new members ran their debut race for the club with Steve Barrat finishing 56th, Phil Ballard 168th and Paul Silcook 175th. In total 22 men turned out for the club with Cairon Mcaneny finishing 30th, Nick Malpeli 42nd, John Russell 50th, Adrian Sherwood 55th, Norman Leslie 65th, Steve Williamson 72nd, John Franklin 75th, Chris Priestley 109th, Martyn Anetts 118th, Colin Calcutt 147th, Matthew Rix 154th, Brian Judkins 178th, Geoff Pettengell 181st and Pat Norris 183rd.
The ladies team was depleted due to injury and illness but still managed to finish joint 7th out of 13 teams with ladies’ captain Tash Pitman racing well to finish in 8th backed up by Sue Cross 25th and Karen Dodsworth 32nd. Anna Priestley finished a superb 38th having cycled over to Ampthill followed by Linda Aird 39th, Vanessa Rolfe 60th and Lindsay Cook 77th.

Johnny Spinks ran the Seville Marathon on Sunday and was delighted to smash the 3 and a half hour barrier in finishing in 3.20.13.
