Standalone success for Road Runners

North Herts Road Runners revelled in the glorious sunshine on Sunday scooping a host of individual, team and county awards in the Standalone 10km.   With 100 members marshalling the course, to ensure the safety of the runners and lots of loud encouragement, just 14 members were able to race.  Neilson Hall, determined to defend his title, lead the race from start to finish and set a new course record of 30.38 finishing an astonishing 3 minutes ahead of the 2nd placed runner, Steve Harrison from FVS TRI.  Neilson also won the Herts Championship title and smashed the NHRR club record of Pete Sibbet (30.59) which had stood since 1995.   With Steve McKewon finishing Ist V40 in 4th overall, 35.12, Nick Beresfod 9th, 35.58 and James Atkins 10th 36.04 Road Runners won the open team competition and were also crowned County champions.  Pete Scrowther finished 3rd V40 in 36.16 closely followed by Pete Sibbett who also managed a top 20 finish, 36.37. 

Not to be outdone the North Herts ladies also won the open and county team trophies with Rachel Gibbs leading the team home in 3rd place overall with 36.42.  Rachel, who was 2nd in the County Championships, was followed by Lizie Hall, 4th 37.15, Astrid McKewon who won the V35 category in 38.09 and ladies’ captain Tash Pitman 5th senior lady with a PB of 39.35.  Jane Chappell finished 2nd V35 to set a new club V40 record of 40.19 whilst Melissa Winters recorded 40.48. 

Also competing were new members Howard Knight who finished in 50.27 and Ellis Redmand who ran a fantastic debut race to finish 4th junior lady in a time of 54.36.
