Close finish in XC league!

 

North Herts Road Runners opened their cross country season in great form on Sunday when they finished 3rd overall just 12 points behind the winners Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers and 8 points off 2nd placed Wooton Road Runners.  With 5 races left in the series the league is set to be a close competition and Road Runners will be aiming to improve on last year’s 3rd place finish.  50 members turned out to complete a 5mile run at Stopsley that included some fast downhills and challenging climbs.  The men’s team finished 3rd on the day with V40 Steve McKewon first across the line for the club  in 11th position followed by Nick Beresford 16th, Pete Scrwother 17th, Pete Sibbett 20th, Gary Cook 30th, Mark Hutchinson 32nd and Oliver Saville 37th.   In total  32 men competed for the club with the other finishing results as follows:39th Adrian Sherwood, 43rd Ciaran McAneny, 52nd Mark Robertson,, 55th Dave Frampton, 58th Stewart Bryant, 77th Alan Jones, 82nd Johnny Spinks, 84th John Russell, 89th Martyn Annetts, 95yh John Franklin, 101st Chris Priestley,112th Jon Hunt, 144th Richard Harbon, 161st Deryk Myall, 171st Colin Calcutt,173rd Finlay Simpson,180th Mike Mello,185th Paul Bowal, 187th Robert Rigall, 195th Colin Hewitt, 200th Ian Sutcliffe, 298th Bob Boss, 209th Brian Bailey, 229th Geoff Pettengell and 230th Pat Norris.

The ladies’ team finished 2nd with Astrid McKewon 3rd, Tash Pitman 5th and Melissa Winters 12th just 1 point behind winners Biggleswade.  The ladies will be looking to turn the tables on Biggleswade in the next race.  18 ladies enjoyed the mud free course with finishing positions as detailed: Suzy Trott 24th, Karen Dodsworth 33rd, Paula Adams 36th, Lucy Sparkes 38th, Rachel Annetts 45th, Linda Aird 50th, Sheena Cook 52nd, Helen Cairns 60th, Nicki Kemp 89th, Vanessa Rolfe 99th,  Joy Stroud 113th, Lorraine Hewitt 118th,  Christine Sharp 119th, Gayle Whinray 124th and Ann Kirby 143rd.
