RELAY GOLD FOR ROAD RUNNERS!

North Herts Road Runners enjoyed a golden night at the Fairlands Valley Relays held last Tuesday, 21st July and returned with a clutch of open and county medals.  The ladies team of Rachel Gibbs,10.25, Melissa Winter, 11.08, and Tash Pitman, 11.31,  won the open race and were also crowned county champions with Rachel running the ladies’ fastest leg on the night.  The lady vets were also in fine form and a stunning lead off leg  from Jane Chappell in 11.34 set Jo Summers, 12.53 and Karen Dodsworth, 13.06, up for 2nd place in both the open race and the Herts champs.  The men’s race was also very competitive with many of the athletic clubs turning out their fast middle distance specialists.  Road Runners’ senior team of James Atkins 9.56, Neil Tillott 9.57, Mark Robertson 10.57, Gary Cook 10.28 and Tim Street 10.42 finished 6th with Herts Phoenix winning the race whilst the vets team of Pete Scrowther 10.10, Pete Sibbett 10.10, Adrian Sherwood 10.44, James Walsh 10.59 and Nick Malpeli 10.59 ran strongly to finish 3rd in the County champs.  24 men and 19 ladies enjoyed a great finish to the summer season and there were also some promising results from the clubs younger members with Tom Young recording 12.05 just 9 seconds behind dad, Mark, and Helen Harbon running 14.36, just 23 seconds slower than mum, Jo. 

 

The rest of the finishing times were: Martybn Annetts 11.36, Rachel Annetts 14.25, Aimee Baker 14.21, Stewart Bryant 11.05, Helen Cairns 15.09, Colin Calcutt 12.34, Lindsay Cook 18.17, Sally Harkins 16.29, Duncan Hooker 13.09, Paul Kelly 11.14, Nicky Kemp 14.29,Ann Kirby 18.45,  Norman Leslie 11.55, Deryk Myall 12.30, Pat Norris 15.38, Anna Priestley 14.07,  Chris Priestley 11.52, Robert Riggall 13.24, John Russell 11.43, Christine Sharp 16.36, Lucy Sparkes 12.57, Johnny Spinks 11.12 and Suzy Trott 12.21.

 

North Herts Raod Runners triathletes were also in action at the weekend with Mark Robertson finishing 2nd in the Sun City triathlon held in Sunderland.  Mark recorded 43.11 for the 750m swim and 18km bike and then ran 17.36 for 5km to finish in 60.47.  Steve and Astrid McKewon were competing closer to home in their debut Olympic distance triathlon in Milton Keynes which consists of a 1.5km swim in open water, 40km bike and 10k run.  Astrid finished 9th lady and 2nd in her age category in 2.21.45 with splits of 23.27,1.17.57 and 38.12 whilst husband Steve finished 3rd in his age category in 2.00.28 following a 20.24 swim, 1.03.04 bike and 35.13 run.

 

Finally Pete Sibbett took part in the Harlow 10 and finished 25th and 7th V40 in a time of 63.40.
