Midweek MobMatch
19 men and 4 ladies from North Herts Road Runners ventured down the A1 last Wednesday to race in the MobMatch of the Midweek league where Division 1 and 2 clubs race against each other in the finale to the competition. Held in Trent Park the course is scenic, undulating and an unusual distance of 9km, 5 ½ miles. First home for the club was Pete Scrowther in 24th in a time of 34.13 closely followed by James Walsh in 35.59 and Tim Street, 36.30. V50 Paul Kelly crossed the line in 38.06 just inches ahead of V40 Pete Sibbett and first lady for the club in 4th position overall, Tash Pitman who both ran 38.10. With Alan Jones, 39.27, Norman Leslie, 39.30, and Jon Hunt, 39.32, all under 40 minutes and backed up by John Rusell, 41.03, Steve Tracy, 41.31, V60 Deryk Myall 41.55 and Chris Priestley, 43.05, the men’s team finished 8th overall on the night. In the ladies race V45 Karen Dodsworth ran well to finish 35th in 44.17 with Linda Aird 70th, 48.42, and Joy Stroud 99th, 56.29.
After the race the club collected a host of team and individual trophies for 3rd overall in Division 1, Men’s Vets team 2nd, Rachel Gibbs ladies’ champion, Pete Scrowther 2nd V40, Stewart Bryant 2nd V50, Paula Adams 3rd V35 and Pete Sibbett 3rd V40.
On Thursday James Atkins took part in the Standard Chartered Great City race in London and was delighted to finish 30th and 2nd lawyer in 17.21.
Sunday saw Jo Summers complete the Fairlands Valley Spartans Marathon Challenge. Jo not only had to complete 26.2 miles of running, some of which was off road, but also had to navigate her way round the course. Great map skills helped Jo to a 4.23.00 finish.
Road Runners raise money for Hospice
As well as enjoying running North Herts Road Runners are also keen to support the local community and therefore were delighted to present a cheque for £500.00 to the Garden House Hospice. The money was raised from the 2008 Standalone 10km and a raffle held at the club’s annual ball. Presenting the cheque on behalf of the club are Ian Sutcliffe, President, and Lyndsey Cook, Chairperson, with Jo Wiffen, the Garden House Events Coordinator and Hannah Sypula one of the nurses who ran the Standalone 10km the delighted recipients.
