St Ives Dairy Crest 10K - 20 July 2008

This was the second time I had done this event, the first being in 2004.  It has grown in popularity since then as there were over 600 entrants and it is quite a well organised race with a well contested Fun Run prior to the main event.  It is an out and back course with the significant feature being that from 2.5K to 7.5K the race is run on RAF Wyton’s airfield.  Due to the exposure if it is very windy or very hot then it can be quite a taxing part of the race but fortunately on this occasion it was not too hot and the wind was reasonably slight but nevertheless in our faces until we turned back at 5K.  There was chip timing for the first time which is a good improvement as it is quite congested at the start.  I finished in 49m 42s and achieved a negative split largely due to the wind and the main downhill being on the way back.  About 5 minutes slower than in 2004 but I was still relatively pleased.  The only real downside was trying to get out of the area after the race, not helped by road-works and temporary traffic lights.
