A number of North Herts Road Runners took part in the St Albans half marathon on Sunday 6th June. The high temperature made for difficult conditions for those taking on the 13.1 mile course around the historic city. Peter Scrowther was the first Squirrel to the finish in 1:30:14 and 61st place. Alan Jones was next to complete the course, finishing in 1:40:12. He was followed in by Michael Mello in 1:44:31.
Helen Cairns recorded an excellent time in her first half marathon in testing conditions. She finished in 2:03:20. Allison Cook completed the course in 2:12:17.
Five members of the club opted to take part in the Barton 10k which also took place on Sunday. The course is a hilly affair on the edge of the Chilterns run mostly off-road. Gary Cook finished fourth for the second year running in a time of 39.22 and James Atkins secured the club two places in the top five coming home fifth in 39.37. Jose Gauiria was also in action completing the race in 45.36 while Jo Summers finished in 52.47. Lindsay Cook completed the NHRR entrants finishing in 1:03.56.
The popular Standalone 10k organised by the North Herts Road Runners is now accepting entries. This year's race will take place from the Standalone farm in Letchworth at 10am on Sunday 5th October. The race features chip timing, a range of cash prizes across age and gender categories and a race souvenir and goodie bag for all finishers. The race is limited to 1200 participants, so early entry is advisable. This year's event will also includes the Hertfordshire veteran AAA championships over the accurately measured 10k course as well as a free children's fun run!
