A water-logged park cause the cancellation of North Herts Road Runners league cross country fixture at the weekend but 4 members were determined to make the most of the improved weather conditions to race. The Stamford Striders’ St Valentine 30km race was the choice for 3 members training for the London marathon. 18.6 miles around a hilly challenging course on rural lanes in South Lincolnshire saw Mark Young finish in 2.08.45 which at 6.55 miling puts him close to the magic 3 hour barrier for London. Melissa Winters finishing 10th lady with 2.13.20 was also pleased with her performance which currently suggests a 3.05 finish. Melissa’s previous marathon performances have qualified her to start on the elite start at London. Chris Priestley also recorded a top 10 age category finish in the V55s finishing 9th in 2.31.36.
The Chessington World of Adventures 10km provided Pete Scrowther with his second fastest time ever over the distance as he recorded 37.40 to finish 9th V40.
